The Guerrilla Tree Project

We are a fun loving partying group of friends who have gotten together this summer '08 to start a guerrilla art project around the city. We're always looking for a good excuse to party & have fun! With this guerilla art project now we have a way to share some of the fun with all of NYC :-D

How's that? So you're walking along amid all the hussle and bustle and maybe stop for just a second to notice the little things and...

Is that tree looking at me?!?!

Spreading a little silliness on the streets of NY, we are putting up eyes on trees in different neighborhoods around the city. Using found items made out of natural materials we are sharing some amusement but also a good message! Without being too preachy about it, it is a reminder of trees as beings, silently watching over us.....

But it is only worth it if it's FUN !! :-D

Calling All Guerrillas!!!

Anyone in NYC who is interested in this street installation project is welcome to contact me and come on out to party with us! :-)

There have also been some soft murmurings from people in other parts of the world about maybe taking this to thier cities.

Tree Eyes Around The WORLD !!! Woohoooo...!! :-D

Do it! It's Easy. And super fun! ...Just be sure to send in a picture for the blog!!

It's a simple enough thing that someone could do by themself but could be a lot of fun to get a few friends together. Make a party out of it! Keeping with the green message we focused on reusing found items, natural, biodegradable materials, and not defacing or causing any damage to the trees. Some of the materials we used included a lot of cardboard (colored cardboard was useful), oyster shells, wine corks, beer tabs, bottle caps, beads, found trinkets... The simplest way we've found to put the eyes up without hurting the trees has been using twine to tie the around the tree.

I dunno what your city's like but some passerby or another will take the tree eyes if they're accessible to reach in this city. The eyes need to be tied up high enough so you'll need something to stand on.

When your done don't forget to take a picture of your guerilla art piece! Try to get one close up of your work and one from further back getting in the tree and the background. Remember to note the exact location, the street it's on, the nearest cross street and city (also mention if it's a landmark location), with the date and time of the installation.
